How to Choose the Right Size Rubber Tracks for your Excavator?

Rubber Tracks come in a wide range of sizes, and it can be daunting trying to find the correct fit for your excavator. To help you we have put together the following guide:

Track Width

Rubber Tracks have 3 key dimensions that you need to be aware of, and the first of these is the width of the track. Typically theses are measured in Millimeters (mm) as many manufacturers originate outside the US.

It is important to match the width to what is already on the excavator as most mini excavators will be limited in what width of track can be fitted, otherwise you run the risk of causing conflict with other parts of the machines undercarriage. Measuring the width is as simple as laying a tape measure across the track and checking the width. The most common widths are shown above.

Track Pitch

The second key dimension is the pitch of the track. This is the measurement from the center of one track link (the metal cleats built into the track), to the next track link. This measurement is the hardest one to measure but most track pitches are standard measurements depending on the machine so normally an approximate measurement is good enough and one of our team can match it to our database.

Number of Track Links

The final key piece of information that defines the size of a rubber track, is the number of links in the track. As mentioned above this is the number of the steel bars around the track that the sprocket engages with and drives on. An easy way to count these is to take a piece of chalk or some paint and mark one link, and then continue counting around the track until you reach back to where you started.

What happens if I am not confident that I have the rubber track measurements correct?

TrackHorse have over 30 Years of experience helping customers across the US find the right tracks for their equipment, and we are here to help! Often times all we will require is the make and model of your excavator (i.e. Deere 17G or Bobcat E19 etc). From this information we can cross check any informaiton you have gathered with our extensive database to ensure you get the correct track for your excavator.
